The Opportunity
Individual Actuarial is responsible for the managing the risk associated with all Individual lines of business, including Voluntary, Conversion, and Pay-or-Play products.
Lead the actuarial aspects of a Large Corporate Client Individual product portfolio. This includes the end-to-end process of new product roll-out, monitoring and managing the existing block of business, reviewing reserves, reporting on emerging client experience and recommending pricing changes.
Responsibilities of the Corporate Account Actuary include using and developing actuarial models for pricing and rating; determining trends for the client block of business as it relates to product design, pricing and forecasting; reviewing IBNR, active life reserves and other financial projections; preparing rate filings and certifications; and complying with applicable state regulations, laws and standards.
Key behaviors critical to success include, collaborating and partnering with other functional areas in support of business objectives, communicating with senior management, team members and client, and proactively managing time and resources to meet deadlines. This person should be able to work independently, as well as in project teams, and will lead an actuarial staff to accomplish projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in an analytic discipline
- ASA, MAAA required, FSA desired
- Actuarial/Pricing: local market & rate filings/1-3 Years
- Actuarial/Valuation/Reserving/1-3 Years
- Finance/Managing Risk/ADVANCED
- Collaborating for Results/ADVANCED
- Turning Data into Information/MASTERY
- At least 3 – 5 years of health pricing experience (individual pricing is a plus).
- Proven experience with extracting and analyzing data, using forecasting models to project costs and determine trends.
- Demonstrates strong analytical and problem solving skills as well as communication skills (both oral and written).
- Can build rapport and collaborative relations within and outside of the actuarial community. Effective time management and organizational skills.
- Experience with personal computers, including proficiency in Excel and Access are required.
