Step #2: Identifying The Problem and The Solution

A successful Candidacy starts with persuasively communicating your Assets applied to real-life scenarios.  However, it can come as a surprise to know that this may not be enough.  Candidates who interview well only to find out they didn’t get the job know that Earning the Offer can be a maddening pursuit.

This may help:  Think of every job posting as a Problem in need of a Solution.  The question is whether your Candidacy is the Solution, given the value the Employer places on the Problem.  Simply stated: Job Offers are the result of a successful match between the Problem and the Solution,at a given price point.

For the Candidate who interviewed well but lost out, the failure was either in not understanding the Problem or not presenting themself as the cost-effective Solution.  Envision your job search like a detective searching out clues to solve a crime.  Don’t overestimate your understanding of the Problem.  Start your search with an inquisitive attitude.  Check foundational facts.  Identify assumptions to avoid being broadsided by the unexpected.  Understand that assumptions you hold may be wrong.  Find a way to test the adequacy of your understanding of the Problem.

Once you’ve gained a better understanding of the Problem, address possible Solution scenarios.  As with the Problem, start with an inquisitive attitude.  Assume that standard Solutions may not apply.  Check foundational facts.  Identify your assumptions.  Find a way to test the adequacy of your understanding of the Solution.
